Dueling & Combat

Wishmaster's spells don't just look good. Many of them react to each other, so a duel becomes a game of reading your opponent and answering with the right magic.

How a duel works

  • Elementals are your main weapons. Fire, Ice, Earth, Wind, Electricity and Water are made for dueling. See them in the Spell Library.
  • You can read your opponent. When someone prepares an elemental spell, an aura in that element's color forms at their feet. Watch for it and choose your answer.
  • Charms are your defense. Shield, Bless and Stupefy can block, cure or interrupt.
  • Agree on the rules. Duel with willing players, in places that allow it. If you only want the show, turn on Safe Mode.

Elemental reactions

When this… meets this… this happens
Ice Fire The fire goes out.
Fire Ice The ice melts. Fire also cancels ice magic when they collide.
Ice Second Life water The water freezes solid. You can walk across it.
Ice An avatar or object It freezes.
Wind Gust Another Wind Gust The streams collide and go wild: wind blows in random directions and the particles change color.
Earth Pillar A Shield The pillar can bump the shielded avatar out of the Shield.

Defense and tactics

Shield

Type Self

Spells that hit your Shield bounce off and fade away. The trade-off: no magic works inside it, including your own. Rapture cannot pass a Shield. To break someone else's Shield, use Earth Pillar.

Bless

Type Target

Removes hexes from the target and anyone close to them. Use it to free yourself or a friend from Bind, Paralyze or Tree Hex.

Stupefy

Type Target

Interrupts a mage who is charging a spell. If your opponent is building up an Explosion, Stupefy them and the Explosion fails.

Dispel

Type Self

Ends all of the magic you have cast in the region, at once. It does not remove spells cast by other people; use Bless for hexes on you.

Command/9 dispel

Combat systems (DCS and Spellfire)

Some Second Life regions use combat meters such as DCS or Spellfire to track health in a fight. Two Wishmaster spells deal damage in those systems:

  • Strike (Elementals → Electricity)
  • The lightning in Thunderstorm (Weather)

Other spells are visual or physical only.

Duel etiquette

Good duels are fair duels

  • Ask before you cast at someone. Not everyone wants to fight.
  • Agree on limits first, for example "elementals only" or "no Eldritch".
  • Respect the region's rules. Many roleplay regions require Safe Mode.
  • When the duel is over, type /9 dispel to clean up.
